Hub City Fencing Academy welcomes the public to experience a taste of the elegant sport of fencing at its Grand Opening celebration from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 22.

Now in its second year of operation, Hub City Fencing, located at 737 New Durham Road in Edison, is a teaching fencing school open to both adults and children. The three weapons of epee, foil and sabre are offered for all experience levels, as well as footwork classes, group and private lessons and memberships.

The grand opening celebration, which is free and open to the public, will feature free mini-fencing classes throughout the day, fencing demonstrations, open bouting for experienced fencers, and meet and greet sessions with our roster of experienced coaches. A free, two-hour fencing lesson will be offered from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Refreshments will be served.

Hub City Fencing was founded in 2010 by Colonia resident Lauren Cohen, head coach Richard Beischer, and husband-and-wife coaching team John and Kathyrn Harrold.

Beischer and Harrold are both 16 year veterans of the sport, and led The Lawrenceville School’s fencing team to victory as Prep State Champions three years in a row. Harrold fenced for the Rutgers University fencing team in 2002-03, and Beischer is an acclaimed private coach, armorer and current head coach of the Lawrenceville School’s fencing team. Both they, along with Hub City’s other seasoned coaches currently train a selection of fifty fencers of all ages at the club.

The facility boasts a parents’ lounge, free wi-fi for visitors, separate men’s and women’s locker rooms, an in-house armory, and free on-site parking.
